Monster Highway

Imagine every morning staring out of your window at this huge highway in the sky! This is a reality for many people living in Japan, where doubledecker highways and train tracks weave around densely populated neighborhoods. Fortunately, I live in a shack just far enough away from one of these monstrosities for it to not bother me.

Kobe, Japan: Immigration Office

Here’s a shot I took in Kobe this morning. I was coming back from the immigration office to extend my working-holiday visa. I just went to pick up an application today, and it was four pages of forms! Hopefully it shouldn’t be an issue getting my extension, but the paperwork is something I could do without. Also the $40 fee!

Kobe is a lovely city though.

Exercise is Better in Groups

Have your plans to get in shape ever started off by signing an expensive gym contract, ordering MMA gear, or buying a pair of running shoes with the promise that you’ll get up each morning to jog? If you’ve tried exercising alone, like many of us have, there’s a good chance that you’ve experienced the most common outcome – loss of motivation and unmet fitness goals.

Trying to get in shape by yourself is hard for many people and, I’d argue, impossible for most. Without some kind of social support or group motivation, most people simply can’t push themselves hard enough or long enough to make a measureable impact on their health.

Crunky Bar

This strawberry Crunky bar tastes awesome! Japanese people love the strawberry flavour, which is why most chocolate items come in this variety. For a dollar at the Lawson store down the road, it makes a nice snack!
