IODATA GUC2025H: USB to HDMI Adapter Review

An Affordable USB to HDMI Adapter

It sounds almost too good to be true – a USB-to-HDMI adapter for around $100 – but that’s exactly what IODATA has released with their GUC2025H external converter.

I’ve been looking for such an adapter for my laptop, and with the GUC2025H, there’s finally an affordable device that can do everything that I want.

How The Adapter Works

To use the IODATA USB External HD A/V Adapter, you simply plug one end into your computer’s USB port and the other into your display’s HDMI port. It’s a USB powered device, so there’s no power cable to worry about.

The GUC2025H will work with any version of Windows (XP or newer), and attaches to any standard USB 2.0/3.0 port.

What About Audio?

Good news – the GUC2025H will also transfer audio over its USB-to-HDMI connection. Now you have an all-in-one A/V solution with fewer cables that’s perfect for hooking up your tower or laptop to the TV.

Multiple Monitor Output

A lot of computers these days, including most notebooks, don’t come with multiple video outputs, which means you can only hook them up to one external display at a time. By using the GUC2025H, you are virtually transforming a USB port into an addition video output. Now you can enjoy a 2 or 3 monitor setup with whatever hardware you own.

Using the GUC2025H For Your HTPC

Home theatre PC’s have become quite popular in recent times. But because these machines are commonly built with low-end parts, or are recycled PC’s from a bygone era, many of them don’t feature an HDMI output.

Attaching the GUC2025H to your HTPC will give it the ability to transfer 1080p video, with audio, to your living room TV, without having to upgrade internal components.

High Definition Video Output

The GUC2025H is a high definition device providing up to 1920 x 1080 resolution for crisp 1080p video. On a 4:3 display, such as non-widescreen monitor, the adapter can output up to 1600 x 1200.

How Big Is The GUC2025H?

If you plan to carry around this adapter with your laptop, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s very portable:

    Width – 4.2 in
    Length – 2.8 in
    Height – 0.6 in

Warranty Period

I think it’s unlikely that a device like this would somehow fail on its own one day – it has no moving parts and is basically a chip in a box – but even if you’re unlucky with such things, IODATA has included a generous 3-year warranty.

Best Place To Buy One?

The IODATA USB External HD A/V Adapter can be bought on Amazon for around $99.
